The Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., is getting a new mascot, and it is a black bear named Cosley.
The animal, which was born on February 9, 2017, was named after Cosley, a black bears mother.
The zoo’s official Twitter account tweeted the following photo of Cosley after being born: The new Cosley bears are the first black bears in the Smithsonian National Zoo to be named after a black person.
It’s the zoo’s first black bear to be born in the United States since 2006.
In the future, the zoo is looking to have at least one black bear born in 2018.
Here’s a look at Cosley’s first day at the zoo.
